Let's Get Baking
“It's all about a balancing act between time, temperature and ingredients: That's the art of baking.” — Peter Reinhart
Before we begin baking let’s learn about mise en place. “Mise en place” is a French phrase that translates to “everything in place” or “putting in place.” It is a general concept for how everything operates in the kitchen, whether cooking or baking. In baking it's about having all of your ingredients prepped, softened, melted, sifted, and measured before you begin baking. It’s a great opportunity to check your ingredients and make sure you have everything you need before you get started. Don’t underestimate this step. There’s nothing worse than running out of buttermilk mid-recipe.
